• (Optional) Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. He wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator also between God and man, the man Jesus Christ, who gave himself as a ransom for all. (Philippians 2:11b; 

  ¹¹ and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
      to the glory of God the Father.

   1 Timothy 2:4-6a).

Choose a way to cast vision for who they can become in Christ or what God can do through them by:

• a scripture that reminds them of the Father’s Heart and of the end vision.
• reflecting on the changes in their life since they started following Christ
• reminding them of what God wants to do through them

Our vision is: “A church for every village and community, and the gospel for every person.”

The Faith of the Centurion

¹ When Jesus had finished saying all this to the people who were listening, he entered Capernaum.² There a centurion’s servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die.³ The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant.⁴ When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this,⁵ because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.”⁶ So Jesus went with them.

He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof.⁷ That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.⁸ For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

⁹ When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.”¹⁰ Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.

Jesus finished teaching his disciples. Travelling back to Capernaum he meets a Roman Centurion, a military officer in charge of 100 men. This Roman military leader showed unusual love and compassion for his sick slave by asking for Jesus’ help. The Centurion’s job was to maintain order, enforce the laws, and make sure the taxes were being collected. But God used the Centurion to instruct the leaders of the movement. They learned:

1. A leader loves those they are leading;
2. A leader leads with humility, realizing that he is not worthy of honor;
3. A leader leads by faith, not trusting in what he can see but in the invisible God
4. A leader never forgets that he is under authority and that he will give an account for the people placed under his care. Jesus was amazed to meet a man like this.
