Our vision is: “A church for every village and community, and the gospel for every person.”
Read or watch Matthew 4:12-17 two times as others listen.
12 When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee.13 Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali—14 to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah:
15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles—
16 the people living in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.”
17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”
Additional Questions:
Jesus now moves into a period of transition in His ministry. At the beginning of this period, John was put in prison and this prompted Jesus to move to north to Galilee. Jesus was then rejected in his home village of Nazareth. He relocates, choosing the city of Capernaum on the lake shore as his new home base. This is a strategic location as it is on a major international highway of that time. Jesus’ fame is growing and spreading. With John the Baptist now in prison, there is a transition of leadership of the Kingdom message. Jesus begins to focus His message to the same message that John had, “repent for the kingdom of heaven is near.”
